Meemaw’s Hamburger BBQ (A.K.A Sloppy Joes!)
Growing up, we often ate what we called hamburger bbq. I always heard it called sloppy joes as well, but that’s just not what my family called it. As I grew up, I realized very few people understood what I was talking about when I mentioned eating hamburger bbq. Haha! So I’m here to spread the word that hamburger bbq and sloppy joes are the same thing, y’all.
I’m also here to give you a deliciously easy recipe for it! This comes from my Meemaw’s family cookbook and is a definite crowd pleaser. You can use beef hamburger or venison, both work wonderfully. Serve it on a bun, over chips, or on a sandwich and add cheese! You can’t go wrong any way you have it.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb hamburger
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp white vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp Heinz 57 sauce
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup ketchup
Directions:
Cook hamburger in a pan over medium high heat until cooked through. Drain any grease then add remaining ingredients to hamburger. Stir and let simmer for a few minutes to let flavors come together. Serve and enjoy!
