Sausage Stuffing
Everyone needs a good side dish. Stuffing may make you think of Thanksgiving, but that’s not the only time to enjoy this savory side! I particularly love serving this alongside pork chops and my homemade applesauce.
What makes this stuffing different than others? First, I add ground breakfast sausage to the mix. This adds extra spice and texture to the dish. Second, I use chicken broth instead of water. Again, so much added flavor! This recipe is about as simple as it gets by using a packaged stuffing mix. Don’t knock it till ya try it, y’all. It’s good!
Ingredients:
- 1 package herb stuffing mix (such as pepperidge farms)
- 1 lb ground breakfast sausage
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 1 egg
- 5 tbsp butter, melted
- 2 cups chicken broth
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. Heat a pan over medium high heat and add onion and celery. Cook for 2 minutes then add sausage and cook until browned. In a large mixing bowl, add your stuffing, egg, butter and chicken broth and stir. Drain grease from sausage then add sausage into stuffing and mix well. Transfer to a 9×13 pan and bake for 30 minutes. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
