Small Batch Applesauce
One of my all time favorite foods is homemade applesauce. Store bought applesauce ain’t got nothin’ on homemade. The latter tends to be watery, over packed with sugar, and really not that tasty. Whereas homemade applesauce is rich both in taste and consistency.
Not only is applesauce great on it’s own, but you can also use it in muffins or breads. Or use it as a topping for toast, pancakes, or waffles! The options are endless. My personal preference is toast topped with butter and applesauce with a hot cup of coffee on the side.
So here is a small batch recipe to fill your applesauce craving! If you need more, feel free to double or triple it.
Ingredients:
- 5 medium apples, peeled and cored
- 1/2 to 1 cup water
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (I used organic, but you can use maple syrup too!)
- 1 tsp cinnamon or more to taste
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a pot over medium heat. Start with only 1/2 cup water and add more if the mixture becomes too dry while cooking. Stir occasionally. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes or until applesauce are nice and soft. Once soft, remove from heat and let cool slightly. Transfer to a blender or food processor and blend until desired consistency is reached. Taste and adjust seasonings and sweetness. Store in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
Enjoy!
